THE BAND: Come on out to the finest bluegrass rafting trip this side of the South Platte River, It is Dvorak’s 2 day overnight ‘Premier Bluegrass Roustabout’. The band Old Mose has some of the best pickers you can imagine. The band delivers a high energy, ultra-danceable blend of traditional bluegrass, classic country, and folk that has been called “high-country grass” or “whisky grass”. The name “Old Mose” pays tribute to the fantastic legend of the last great grizzly bear to roam the mountains of south-central Colorado around the close of the 19th century. Like their name’s sake, this string band possesses an infectiously rebellious swagger and plays by it own rules!
THE DVORAK’S: Bill and Jaci Dvorak has been running rivers commercially longer than anyone else in Colorado established in 1969. Having offered their annual 8-day Classical music journeys for more than 35 years the Dvorak’s breaking the COVID fast this year and taking a break in the open air for this laid-back evening of bluegrass! With a personal penchant for Bluegrass music, they are ready to take a bluegrass band down the Class III Arkansas River which will provide an acoustically outstanding natural setting to perform. The 2021 “Bluegrass River Journey” premier is born.
Dvorak’s once again is bringing a new twist of music to ring out in the river canyons of Colorado’s famous Arkansas River. The band will blend in with the sweet melody of the morning chorus of birds, rippling sounds of the river and the drum roll of the rapids. Guests will join members of the band on a two-day Roustabout journey. We will set up camp under summer starry skies, playing under the twinkling star studded sky near natural red rock backdrop of the National Monument, a stage setting set for kings and queens.
Our concert is scheduled for June 9th, after your gourmet dinner. We also have included our crazy costume dress up. And yes, dancing is encouraged for the concert. The concert halls are the acoustically rich canyons and alpine forests at 7,000 ft in elevation. Speaking of ‘Elevation’ We expect you will enjoy the local beer & wine selections to be presented with dinner.
“The idea first emerged following a conversation Bill Dvorak, owner and founder of Dvorak Expeditions, had with a friend, Kurt Beddingfield of ‘OLD MOSE’ and he loved the idea and said “Let’s make it happen!
Dvorak is planning the trip with plenty of fun whitewater paddle boats or ride in style on an oared raft for the full day. You will be stopping for lunch and possible side hikes before reaching our campsite early afternoon. In addition to rafting and evening bluegrass concert, you can relax at camp, fishing opportunities (Gold Medal waters), play river games, swimming, photography options are extra ordinary and just way too much fun.
Your night in the canyon allows our guests and performers to mingle over campfire conversation, laughter, tuning up and singing after our staff / guides prepare the gourmet dinner such as blackened salmon, BBQ steaks, fresh salads, garden vegetables and Dutch oven dessert such as black forest cake, accompanied by hors d’oeuvres and a selection of local brewery beers and Chaffee County wines.
